Here are 8 coffee grinder reviews to help you find the economical coffee bean grinder that you need.
Whether from local coffee shops, or the comfort of one’s home, a good cup of coffee can make all the difference in how our day begins.
From the whir of the coffee grinder as it grinds down the beans, to the hot water percolating through the filter, leading to the intoxicating aroma and first sip – it’s a ritual enjoyed by millions of us each day.
Nowadays, you don’t need to travel to a café to get a great-tasting cup of java, and many prefer to customize the morning coffee or espresso using their own coffee grinder.
The quality of your coffee grinder and how it grinds coffee beans depends on a number of factors.
While spinning blades are economical and fast, they do not grind coffee to the same precision as the more modern burr grinders that crush the coffee beans with less heat to maximize the flavor.
Fortunately, it is not expensive to pick up a great coffee grinder that fits your tastes, budget and kitchen decor. With such a vast choice available, it can be a minefield in choosing the right appliance to grind your coffee beans.
Unless you are a coffee shop barista, or a pure enthusiast that must have one of those top notch coffee grinders, it should not cost you $500, $400 or even $300 to find a coffee grinder that will satisfy your needs.
In this article, with the home shopper in mind, I review my picks of the 8 best coffee grinders available on the market today.
Cuisinart DBM-8 Supreme Grind Automatic Burr Mill
Sleek and stylish, with straight edges and a minimalist black plastic finish, the Cuisinart DBM-8 is a small and compact burr grinder.
It’s perfect for those who need their coffee quick, and it can dispense up to 18 cups per minute, which is more than adequate for home-brewing.
Simple enough, you can set the amount of cups you want, and quickly the machine will take care of the rest.
There are 18 position settings on the grinder ranging from very coarse to superfine.
However, I’ve found that although it can handle a French Press or Auto Drip coffee with ease, it may not suit your needs as well as an espresso grinder or pour over setup.
Each finished coffee grind is dispensed in a handy lid with minimal waste, and the whole process can be completed quite simple with just the touch of a button.
It shuts off automatically when not in use and has easy to clean chambers, so maintaining it is a breeze.
The Cuisinart DBM-8 is also sturdy and durable so you can expect a long life from this coffee bean grinder.
Overall, this coffee grinder offers great value for your money as its modern design merges with a fast and consistent burr grinder. If this is your first foray into coffee grinding, or maybe you just purchased your first coffee press, then The Cuisinart DBM-8 is a worthy choice, and simply…
…one of the best burr grinders on the market today for buyers on a tight budget.

Secura Electric Coffee And Spice Grinder
The Secura Electric Coffee and Spice Grinder is a robust and compact powerhouse.
The stainless steel exterior is gorgeous, and this is really one of the more well designed blade grinders available today.
- Drop in the coffee beans
- Close the lid
- Press the button
- Enjoy your fresh coffee grind
Have you ever burnt out a motor on one of your coffee grinders before, or maybe even a blender or food processor? I know I have.
Now, want to know why I ask?
While unusual for blade grinders in this category, it has its own smart overheat button which prevents the motors from overheating during extended periods of use, and this ensures durability that will last for many years.
This coffee grinder comes complete with two sets of blades: one for coffee beans and the other specifically designed for grinding your aromatic spices. The blades are easy to swap out, so you can quickly switch from Barista to Master Chef in a matter of seconds.
So here’s the deal:
This particular coffee grinder has only two grind settings, so it’s somewhat limited in the variety of brew it can manage. However, for the average coffee drinker, this isn’t a huge complaint. Many, less seasoned coffee bean grinders may find this to be a nice accommodation when learning the best practices.
The grind time works quickly indeed, so those needing their coffee in a hurry will be able to grab a quick cup before dashing out the door.
Overall, this Secura coffee grinder is stylish and compact, and while being another one of my go-to choices, its dual coffee/spice grinding abilities make it a great addition to a busy kitchen.

JavaPresse Manual Coffee Grinder
If you don’t have a lot of time in the mornings to enjoy your coffee, then the JavaPresse Manual Coffee Grinder may not be for you.
Elegantly designed with brushed stainless steel and ceramic plates, the super slim and very light JavaPresse is for the purist who takes pleasure in spending the time to make coffee by hand.
Equally, it’s a favorite of the traveling coffee drinker, and will conveniently slip into your holdall, giving you perfectly ground coffee on a picnic, camping trip or weekend excursion.
As a manual burr grinder, it does not require any electricity, like many other noisy counterparts.
With 18 settings for coarseness, you just easily turn the dial as necessary and are guaranteed a coffee grind for any type of brew you desire.
What does it accommodate?
- French Press
- Chemex <== One of my favorites, very cool brew.
- Auto Drip
- Cold Brew
- Spice Grind
The JavaPresse Manual Coffee Grinder handles just about any coffee grind with ease. There is a small learning curve in choosing the right setting, but this will not be an issue after just a few uses familiarizing yourself with it.
Priced around $23 right now, this manual coffee grinder is priced very reasonably for a steel burr grinder, and its portability makes it my top pick in the manual coffee grinder category.

Cusinart DGB-550BK 12 Cup Automatic Coffeemaker Grind
If your coffee beans are already ground, there is a pre-grind feature that brews them quick and simple, for the fast person on the go.
Expertly designed in elegant black and silver, its cubic shape and ergonomic design make it one of the more attractive machines on the market, and it will look the part in any modern kitchen.
A permanent filter and charcoal water purification system ensure clean water for your coffee, and it comes complete with an easy to use, computerized control panel that alerts you when your coffee is ready.
The appeal of this coffee machine lies in its convenience and comfort; both parents and busy folk, with little time to spare, will absolutely love the 24-hour programmability. Just set the timer before you go to bed, and have the pleasant aroma of fresh coffee hit your nostrils when you enter the kitchen – your first cup of the day already prepared.
With such amazing convenience in its programmability, it also features:
- Auto shutoff from 0-4 hours
- 1- to 4-Cup feature
- 12-Cup glass carafe
- Brew Pause feature
- Ergonomic handle
- Drip-less pour spout
- Knuckle guard
- Pre-ground coffee ready
But here’s the kicker:
This particular coffee grinder is harder to clean than its counterparts and relatively noisy. However, these are small trade offs given its dual functionality, programmability and excellent price.
The coffee from this machine is fresh and rich in flavor, and by taking care of both coffee grinding and brewing, it will ideally suit a busy household or coffee grinding rookie.

Epica Electric Coffee Grinder & Spice Grinder
The stainless steel Epica Electric Coffee Grinder is a basic machine that’s small and fashionable, and won’t look out of place among your more expensive kitchen appliances.
Although it’s a bit pricier for a blade grinder, the 250 Watt motor packs plenty of power which gives it both durability and a rapid grind speed, not to mention its 2-year warranty.
This device will be very appealing to ‘foodies’ who need their coffee in the morning, maybe some nuts or flax seeds in a smoothie or spend the evening using it as a spice grinder to cook up a feast.
As blade coffee grinders go, this one does the job quick and effective. It’s user-friendly and portable while the removable cup makes it easy to use. Consisting of stainless steel and plastic with a detachable cup, you’ll be happy to know that it can be put in the dishwasher for simple no fuss cleaning.
This coffee bean grinder has a safety function preventing it from working when the lid is off to avoid any unwanted accidents.
You might be wondering:
The limitations of the Epica Electric Coffee Grinder lie in the grinder blades, which won’t give the same quality grind as a burr grinder.
But it gets better…
…it does allow you to check on your progress through the transparent lid and can stop whenever you’ve found the right consistency. If you’re seeking a small and modern blade grinder that will spruce up your counter top and grind a variety of ingredients, then the Epica Electric Coffee and Spice Grinder is a great pick.

Bodum Bistro Electric Burr Coffee Grinder
Want to know the best part?
It is available in a range of bold and unique colors including lime green and orange, and really stands out in the crowd of most modern coffee grinders.
A break from the norm of black and silver coffee grinders…
…it won’t appeal to everyone’s tastes, but it still has the modern look that most seek out for their kitchen; with a mottled black plastic finish and large, bright buttons that are complemented by an eye-pleasing conical hopper.
This burr grinder handles dark and oily beans very well, and due to the use of premium Borosilicate glass, it suffers no static problems or residue – a unique feature not often found with other burr coffee grinders.
There is a timed grind feature which allows you to set the exact time for each grind, and this reduces waste and helps keep the coffee beans extra fresh.
However, it has plastic gears, which means it may not be as durable as some similarly priced competitors.
But here is my favorite part…
…with 14 coarseness settings, the coffee grinds all come out at a relatively equal size resulting in very little sediment for your French Press. The large hopper will provide a very decent sized coffee pot from just one 20-second grind.
Priced very reasonably, the Bodum Bistro is an affordable, quality burr grinder, and one of my top choices available today.

Baratza Encore Conical Burr Coffee Grinder
The Baratza Encore is an espresso lover’s dream, taking your coffee bean grinding to the next level.
While good espresso grinders can cost you a fair chunk of change, this burr grinder comes in at a manageable $129 – and personally, I believe is one of the best burr coffee grinders on the market right now.
It is one of the better-looking coffee grinders available today. The shiny black housing and sleek curves will definitely add some class to your kitchen.
A unique feature with the Baratza Encore is the ability to control the RPM of the burrs for better speed control of the grinding. Moreover, the coffee grinds are uniform and consistent across its incredible 40 grind settings.
A bit overwhelming?
While 40 coarse settings may seem like overkill, it allows you to experiment to your heart’s content to find your favorite consistency. It’s robust and silent, and although relatively slow to grind the coffee beans, this should not mark any downfalls on its great value.
As there are no tools involved in removing the burrs, cleaning is quick and straightforward with this coffee grinder.
Maybe you are thinking…
…at this price, one would expect some more features, and this is where the Baratza Encore loses a few marks as a burr grinder. While easy to use for an experienced coffee grinder, it’s not particularly user-friendly for the beginner. As a result, novice grinders may be more inclined to find one of the more user-friendly coffee grinder options on the market.
My final thought, unless you are just an all-in go-getter like myself, I would recommend this burr grinder if you are considering an upgrade from your first coffee grinder to something more advanced.

Capresso 565.05 Infinity Conical Burr Grinder
At the higher end of this list, the Capresso 565.05 Infinity is a professional style, home burr grinder that uses commercial-grade burrs for perfect tasting coffee beans.
A heavy-duty zinc housing makes it very durable, and the modern, elegant design will liven up your kitchen decor.
The Capresso 565.05 has the slowest grind settings in its class, although not a downfall in my eyes, it markedly enhances the flavor from your coffee grind.
I find the grind quality of the Capresso to be consistently excellent, and you would be hard-pressed to find a better, home coffee grinder at this price range.
There are 16 grind settings and a quick and easy-to-use timer (from 5-60 seconds), providing precision in your desired coarseness.
Now, what else does it do?
- Makes a great tasting Espresso
- Makes a great tasting Auto Drip <== Your answer to convenience
- Makes a great tasting Aeropress
- Makes a great tasting French Press
Sure does seem to make a lot of great things right?…
…Well it is also super quiet, and you will barely notice it grinding in the background. Although it can be a little messy, it will produce a quality coffee grind that far outweighs that minor trouble. But hey, a messy kitchen is a working kitchen.
If you are an organized clean freak like myself:
It comes accompanied with a small dusting brush and cleaning liquid while being easy to disassemble for maintenance.
Lastly, for coffee shop level grind precision and extra tasty java, the Capresso 565.05 Infinity is an affordable, sophisticated and heavy-duty burr grinder.

I guess all that is left to say:
Happy coffee grinding!
Q. Is there any difference between burr grinders versus blade grinders?
A. Blade grinders are not able to produce a consistent size, resulting in the size of the grounds in any particular batch to be quite varied. A good burr grinder should effectively produce consistent sizes of the particular grind chosen or set.
Q. Are there different burr grinders?
A. There are two kinds of burr grinders:
- Flat-plate – shaped like two stacked dinner plates
- Conical – like two glasses stacked one inside the other
Q. Is there any benefit from using a manual coffee grinder?
A. These are essentially burr grinders without the electric motors. There are many, manual coffee grinders that produce excellent quality grinds.
